What separated the top from the rest
Footage. Only Glisse sourced real archive material for the event; the assemblers used generic stock, and the generators invented scenes. For a factual film, this alone decides it.
Pacing. The assemblers' one-clip-per-sentence rhythm was immediately recognisable. Glisse's cut followed the editor's template: long holds on key photographs, faster transitions, a pause before the turn.
Maps. Only Glisse produced maps; every other tool needed them made elsewhere.
Narration. Read voices versus a performed one with pauses. The performed voice also drove the cut, so pictures changed after the key words.
The honest caveats
- Glisse is a template-based editor, so the result is only as good as the template chosen and the script written. A weak script produces a weak film in any tool.
- The assemblers are faster to a first draft and cheaper for throwaway explainers.
- The generators produced the most beautiful individual seconds. They're the right tool for a reconstruction shot inside a film made elsewhere.
